The Difference

How are they different?

AK37 slide plates are not the only ones available to roller hockey goalies today.  There are many homemade designs, then there are few companies that are either actively or on the side producing their products.  Many people by now know about RollerFly from HIT Hockey.  They have, as they claim, brought a revolutionary product to the market.  Its revolutionary, only partially because of its design, in my opinion.  Just as significant is the fact that HIT hockey was able to come up with a design that was conducive to mass production and universal enough to fit nearly all brands and models of pads.

In order to achieve that they had to accept some tradeoffs.  One obvious one was the fit.  Since each brand and model of pads is different, the universal fit will indeed fit different pads, but it will not have a perfect fit on any of the pads.  It will always look somewhat odd or out of place on certain pads.  Another tradeoff is functional.  Since the most difference across different pads in in the toe area, the RolleyFlys do not extent that far down.  That leaves the area of the pad that first makes contact with the court exposed.

Aesthetics

AK37 slide plates are individually hand crafted for each type of pad.  No two sets are quite identical.  Because of that the final product looks like it was made and attached from the very beginning.  From even the slight distance, they are not even noticeable on the pad, because nothing sticks out or looks out of place.

Toe Coverage

The second advantage is that the toe is fully covered and provides the same sliding ability during the initial push off as it does during the mid-slide.

Weight

Another difference between AK37 slide plates and RollerFly is the weight.  While every set is different, the average weight of AK37 slide plates is around 444 grams.  While a set of Rollerflys is 1,278 grams.

Please understand, however, that I am not trying to trash Rolleyflys, as I actually respect what they brought to the roller hockey goalie community.  I am only outlining technical differences.
